When Shawn and Shelly set out to build their dream vacation getaway, they wanted a spacious tiny home with luxury amenities where they could entertain friends and family. Tiny Heirloom, a family-owned business based in Portland, Oregon, answered the challenge with a stunning 400 square foot tiny home customized with all the features the family wanted, and more. Now happily situated on a lovely plot of land with a breathtaking view of the ocean in Maui, the tiny, happy home has made Shawn and Shelly’s vacation dreams come true.

Tiny Heirloom was tasked with maximizing the integration of the outdoors in. Shawn and Shelly wanted, “a deck that could expand the outside to the inside,” as well as a spacious outdoor entertaining area. The designers at Tiny Heirloom included two opening glass NanaWall SL60 systems that fully retract, allowing the indoor living room and master bedroom to fully connect with the large deck. When closed, the opening glass walls imbue the space with stunning views of the ocean outside. A two-sided, see-through gas burning fireplace to warm the space, both outdoors and in. Generous seating and a gas barbecue complete the deck.

Shelly, a professional chef and recipe developer, required a large kitchen in the tiny home. Built out over the bow front, the chef’s kitchen amazingly includes a full-size refrigerator and 19 feet of quartz composite countertops. A full-size stove with five gas burners acts as an island, with storage on one side and countertop seating on the other. A drop-in farmhouse kitchen, rustic patterned backsplash, and three large picture windows round out a fully functional, top-of-the line kitchen.

In addition to a spacious outdoor entertaining area and a full-size chef’s kitchen, a multi-purpose master bedroom was a must have for the owners. In order to accommodate their desire for a private meditation area and indoor yoga studio, Tiny Heirloom designed a queen size Murphy bed that can easily fold into the wall to open up nearly 100 square feet of floor space. Accented with reclaimed barn wood, the Murphy bed faces an 8 foot wide opening glass NanaWall system that opens onto the deck. A large garden window brims with tropical plants and a sliding barn door ensures privacy.
Entertaining friends and family was an important consideration for the couple, and a second full bedroom was an absolute must. Secreted away behind a nearly indistinguishable panel in the ceiling above the kitchen, a set of retractable accordion stairs pull down for access to the 75 square foot guest loft. The guest bedroom is outfitted with a full-size bed, three windows overlooking the Maui paradise, and two windows looking out over the living space below.

Luxury is imbued in every detail of the home. The bathroom houses a state-of-the-art circulating shower surrounded by crisp white hexagonal tiles and a custom vanity with a Carerra marble countertop. The large living room features a custom Chesterfield sofa sectional in a durable gray tweed, reclaimed wood accents, and the two-sided gas fireplace to serve as the gathering place in the center of the home. Rustic farmhouse touches finish out the décor, with cleverly hidden storage spaces throughout.

Built in 2016, Iki Hau’oli Hale was the largest home Tiny Heirloom had built to that point, with a record $250,000 budget. The home was constructed on two separate trailers, with the main living area constructed on the bed of a 43’ wide trailer and the deck on a second trailer. The home, in addition to its opening glass NanaWall systems opening onto the deck with views of the ocean beyond, also features a Dutch door, a bow front over the tongue, industrial lighting, and automatic skylights throughout. And true to their name, Tiny Heirloom has topped the confection with a standing seam copper roof that will patina to a classic green and last through several generations.
