Exterior, Farmhouse Building Type, Wood Siding Material, Metal Roof Material, Gable RoofLine, Beach House Building Type, Metal Siding Material, and Shed RoofLine The architectural language and material palette of the residence were formulated in response and subservience to the natural landscape. Designed as a simple structure, key architectural details act as focal points to the formwork, delivering a contemporary expression that is both warm and tactile. To express the structural rhythm of the dwelling, bold and extensive use of steel was utilized as a defining aspect of the overall design. Wrapping up and over the roofline, the steel encased double height glazed panes were conceived to be the centerpiece of the front façade. The verticality of the glazing articulates the rooflines, while providing a cue to the fresh, light filled contemporary space within. Creating a sense of calm from the vast scale of the landscape, the entry sequence provides shelter and intimacy before entering the home. Though an understated element of the facade, the addition of a trellis adds bravado and creates a defined sense of arrival. Continued throughout the exterior design in varying executions, the trellis detailing was incorporated as an intentional connection to the grassland landscape and to provide continuity to the architectural expression.
