UIC completed a 3000 sf home on three abandoned city lots in the Forest Park Southeast neighborhood of St. Louis. Working with the client’s ambitions to create a contemporary design that fits within its historic neighbors, UIC developed a design that places the primary living space on the ground floor, focused on a courtyard with a lap pool its center, creating an urban oasis in this busy city neighborhood. Guest bedrooms and a studio apartment have been placed on the street elevation, giving the home a 2 -story height with floors aligned to adjacent structure. The building is clad in a combination of steel and cement fiber panels in colors to match the adjacent brick, while maintaining a unique presence.

CDO (Central Design Office) is the architecture division of UIC (Urban Improvement Company), a design-focused integrated practice with expertise in architecture, construction, and real estate development. At CDO, we continually strive to create exceptional architecture with a focus on the implementation and long term life of the buildings we create. We are neither pie in the sky idealists, nor stuck in the mud pragmatists - but instead seek to find beautiful solutions to challenging projects that will create joy for our clients for many years to come. Being a part of UIC, where designers sit next to builders and real estate professionals, we are well suited to help our clients articulate and understand the values that are important in their projects and from this arrive at the most intelligent solutions, whether it is by acting as a design-builder or in a more conventional architecture role.
