Rarely do these three things come together in a single project: high design, ecological sensitivity, and proper siting. It’s usually two out of three at best. But here, architect Christy Seals has perfected her craft, spectacularly delivering all three. Nestled in a grove of live oaks on a six-and-a-quarter acre site seventeen miles from downtown Austin, on the outskirts of Dripping Springs, across the field from the Jester King farmhouse brewery, this modern estate marries sophisticated architectural design with the pleasures of country living. Strong orthogonal lines, well-proportioned volumes, and rigorous detailing define the overall aesthetic, evocative of Wright in the best possible way. Yet the lifestyle is comfortable and accessible, softened by oak floors, warmed by light streaming through clerestory windows, and connected to the well-manicured landscape through floor-to-ceiling glass. The passive solar orientation of the home on the site, ICF (insulated concrete form) construction, and double-glazed windows throughout, ensure that interior temperatures remain comfortable with exceptionally low utility bills. Exquisite finishes include running bond brick, natural stone counters, handmade tile, European hardware, and custom floating cabinetry, and high-end stainless steel appliances.
