We transformed this one-time Street of Dreams urban showhouse in the Block 90 condominiums into a minimal and serene perch above Portland’s bustling Pearl District. Retired Midwest transplants desired a fresh start and a simplification of their living environment. The wrap-around balcony is truly a rarity in this dense urban setting so preserving and emphasizing both West Hills and Urban views was paramount.
We custom designed many of the pieces in the space, including the dining table, console, side tables, ottoman, and built-in bar and media center. Portland-based craftspeople executed the designs and collaborated with the team to develop connection details and finishes.
Custom window treatments allow complete open views or soft filtered light during the brightest moments of the day. Their simplicity blends with the architecture of the space and allows the eye to look beyond the material directly to the West Hills or urban environment.
Living in a compact condo presents storage challenges, even for the most streamlined inhabitants. The team suggested freeing up kitchen storage by creating a dedicated bar and entertainment area within the living space. A custom secretary-style hidden bar with mirrored surface added efficiencies to a previously unused area of the home while creating a fun and conversation worthy centerpiece during parties.
This bright and airy penthouse reflects the owner’s desire for a simple living space with attention to detail and thoughtful yet subtle gestures. Tucker the dachshund approves.
