Modern Comfort - Two years in the making, Bay Area designer Ruth Preucel brings understated elegance to a luxury, state-of-the-art Mission Bay condo in San Francisco. Warm, neutral colors are used to enhance the natural light coming in through the floor-to-ceiling windows allowing the eye to be drawn to the bay and city vista beyond. Her clients reached out to Ruth well in advance before gaining occupancy allowing them to take their time with the interior design process where they were hands on throughout. The result of their collaboration is a sophisticated space which is understated yet comfortable.
To maximize usable space, the open plan living/ dining is outfitted with custom built-ins (wrap around bookcase at sectional sofa and stand alone storage adjacent to kitchen) which were designed in collaboration with Sozo Studio who designed and fabricated the kitchens at the Arden. The custom Madeline Weinrib silk and wool rug was made to order in Nepal. Christian Liagre leather upholsters a classically modern sofa by DWR. The dining room glass pendant is custom from Italy.
The main focal point in the dining area is the large encaustic ocean scene by local Bay Area artist, Thea Schrack. A custom dining table in claro walnut was commissioned with live edge detailing, the slab having been dried 5 years. "This dining room table brings a welcoming and grounded feeling to the condominium and is the client's favorite acquisition by far," adds Ruth. The matching dining room chairs are upholstered in Christian Liagre leather. A custom walnut console completes the dining area by Knowlton Brothers. Modern stools of Italian design from DWR were selected to compliment the contemporary island.
Accessories include the following: custom hand carved wood bowl by local artisan John Cobb from Urban Hardwood, custom bronze candlesticks by Corbin Bronze and bronze bowl on Dining Room table by Cecil Humphreys both from Sloan Miyasato.
