Alpine Harmony: Contemporary Villa in the Swiss Alps

Designed by AIYA Bureau, this villa in the Swiss Alps was conceived as a serene retreat where the owners could slow down, reconnect with nature, and enjoy time together. The project’s guiding principle was to integrate the interior with its surroundings, preserving the natural beauty of the landscape while enriching it with refined, timeless design.
When AIYA joined the project, the building’s structure was already complete, but the entire interior planning, zoning, and furnishing concept was developed by the bureau. Their approach emphasizes thoughtful layout, harmony of materials, and a seamless flow between spaces - creating a modern interpretation of alpine living.

The design palette draws from nature: soft neutral tones, warm oak wall panels, light-gray natural stone floors, and expansive glazing that frames the mountain views. These recurring elements tie the villa together across its four levels, connected by both a staircase and an elevator for ease of movement.

On the lower level (C), technical and service areas are discreetly located. The wellness and hospitality floor above (D) is dedicated to relaxation and guests: two large suites with private bathrooms, a flexible third room that can serve as a gym or extra bedroom, and a full spa zone with sauna, steam room, pool, and lounge. Natural stone flooring, microcement walls, and textured finishes create a calm, restorative environment.

The heart of the villa lies on level E, where the open-plan kitchen, dining, and living spaces are designed for both intimate family evenings and entertaining. The kitchen, custom-made from the bureau’s drawings, features a sculptural stone island with a textured raw surface, seamlessly integrated wood cabinetry, and black fixtures that add contrast. A secondary pantry kitchen with a wine cellar supports the main area while maintaining a minimalist aesthetic.

In the living room, layered lighting, curved forms, and tactile finishes create a warm, inviting atmosphere. Furnished with Flexform sofas and Minotti armchairs, the space embodies understated alpine elegance. A fireplace anchors the room, both as a focal point and a source of comfort.

The top floor (F) houses the master suite. The bedroom is designed in a palette of natural materials and subdued tones: an upholstered bed framed by oak panels, nightstands of dark wood and stone, a sculptural pendant light, and a soft rug underfoot. A three-sided stone fireplace adds intimacy and warmth, complementing the alpine views. Furniture from Porada, Minotti, Cassina, and B&B Italia completes the space, combining refinement with comfort.

The adjoining study continues the theme of quiet sophistication. Wood paneling, soft rugs, and natural light set the mood, while a caramel leather Meridiani sofa-bed, green Minotti armchair, and a bold red coffee table add personality. The workspace, with an OKHA desk and Poltrona Frau chair, is positioned by the window for moments of focused solitude.
Throughout the villa, consistency of materials and a restrained yet tactile palette ensure harmony, while custom details and high-end furnishings elevate every corner. More than just a residence, this villa reflects AIYA Bureau’s philosophy: a balance of contemporary minimalism, natural elegance, and a deep connection to place.
