Dwell Lounge at Sundance

Dwell brought its modern design prowess to the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, last weekend by kitting out a happening lounge at 427 Main Street. With the help of San Francisco interior designer David Mast and the good offices of Brent Jespersen and Ryan Church of Jespersen Design and Poliform SLC, we transformed an old restaurant into one of the hottest hangouts in town. The space was done in conjunction with the Gansevoort Group and the One Group and over the course of the weekend it held premiere parties, star-studded dinners, and a conversation with the Oscar-nominated director Mark Kitchell who came to talk about his new documentary on the environmental movement, "A Fierce Green Fire." The design of the space was a big hit—Ethel Kennedy stopped in and praised it—and it was great fun being in the thick of all the Sundance action. Check out the slideshow to see more.

Top 5 Saul Bass Movie Titles

In our February issue, on newsstands now, we celebrate the life and work of the great graphic designer Saul Bass on the publication of a new monograph Saul Bass: A Life in Film and Design by Jennifer Bass and Pat Kirkham. Better yet, though our Take Me Home contest, you can win a copy of your own, making your coffee table the envy of all your pals. Though we love the logos, type, and printed matter that made Bass one of the titans of mid-century design, the man's true genius lay in the movie title sequences he did in the 50s, 60s. We count down the top five movie credits of his career, essentially the best in all of film history.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy Posters

Fashion maven, style icon, and in this case, promoter of things post-war and British, Paul Smith joins the cause of the new film Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy by designing and selling a quartet of minimal screenprinted movie posters of his own design. The spy film based on John le Carré's novel is top notch (I caught it in London in September) and these posters are pretty boss. Smith consulted on the movie to help get period (mid-70s London) details right and worked with director Tomas Alfredson on the prints. They're on sale now in Paul Smith stores in the US and go for $160 each. Perfect for the spymaster on your gift list.
