Set in the Oxfordshire village of Ambrosden, the two-story home is a 30-minute drive from Oxford and an hour train ride from London.

Across from the living room, the record-listening station has custom oak wall shelving fabricated by Maple Key with powder-coated perforated steel record baskets by local studio Boy Boy. An Atelier de Troupe chair sits atop a Faye TooGood Rug by CC Tapis.

The couple added the wainscot, installed by Seamus, and painted in Farrow & Ball Red Earth to continue the “color story” from the breakfast room. The white oak built-in has much needed storage behind the cane cabinet fronts and display. The Caitlin couch by Everygirl for Interior Define sits atop a vintage checkered rug with an Anthropologie coffee table and Hay Paper Shade overhead.

A playful wood screen greets visitors at the front entry, as well as providing support for a cushioned bench seat. Durable materials such as the Doug Fir cabinetry, White Oak flooring and a slate tile floor provide warmth and longevity.

Those doors were replaced with a large glass stacking door for a wider opening and easy flow between inside and out. On this side, the walnut “Flatiron” millwork serves as storage and sideboard with a mirrored backsplash, glass shelves, marble counter, and bar sink. The table is by Matthew Hilton, and the light fixture by Sonneman.

The architects replaced the solid walls with glass for porosity, and exposed a steel structural column. The main entry is to the left of the stairs. A walnut slat wall lines the staircase, with the slats plunging down to the lower level for definition and to ensure light could flow.

A walnut slat wall creates a protected nook for an office, in what used to be dead space. The white built-ins around the television are designed to “fade into the background,” says Amornvivat, and the team utilized custom open and closed storage throughout. “We have to get the right mix between the two to make the project sing,” says Amornvivat.

An entry nook framed in walnut is a spot to drop bags, shoes, and coats.

The second floor is the home to the primary suite, which is a space created to form a cozy and peaceful cocoon away from the world.
