The primary suite has eastern-facing views, given that the owner wanted morning light.

A new skylight brings sun into the previously uninhabited basement level.

The polished concrete floor of the kitchen continues onto the patio for cohesion. The color of the cabinetry was also chosen to link this common space to the outdoors.

A hall bathroom has plumbing fixtures by Hansgrohe, cabinetry by GLN, and Caesarstone countertops.

The green paneling continues down the hallway. The skylights were original.

“Color-blocking all four walls make this zone feel like it has its own identity,” says Sundius. “It’s a bit of luxury in 420 square feet.”

Ceramic pendants by Courtney Duncan and a yellow sculpture by Antonio join a Hay sectional in the living room. Antonio crafted the stained glass panel at left.

Designed for extra seating and to complement the small window, the built-in bench has become the family’s go-to spot. The Artemide mini Anglepoise lamp (£400) sheds light on nighttime reading. Other lampshades, bought while traveling (to places including Bangkok), serve as cherished mementos.

Eric built a custom bookshelf for one side of the room, using the salvaged kitchen cabinets for the base and adding an arched detail that extends across the ceiling.

The couple added a ledge to the side of the fireplace for display or possible seat.

The green color on the new front door, and found throughout, is a custom color-matched shade to a closet door the couple found in the basement.

Interior designer Heidi Lachapelle chose unfussy furnishings with clean lines. “Nothing should feel decorative or unnecessary,” she says. “We looked for things that would age beautifully to speak to the wabi-sabi concept.” The oak daybed is by Bautier, the indoor/outdoor rug is by Dash & Albert, and the trapezoidal cushions on the concrete bench nod to similar ones that the wife saw at Georgia O’Keefe’s home and studio. The Scandinavian-inspired fireplace throws heat from two sides.

Large windows bring in plenty of natural light.
