One of my favorite parts of set decorating and dressing is working on the nightstand or what's next to the bed. So much character and backstory is revealed (especially subconsciously) when in camera's sight. This tight portrait captures my own, a combination of a few of my favorite collected things from around the world.

I found this lamp at Brooklyn Flea- Fort Greene when I was first settling down in New York. I had just returned from a trip to North Carolina to visit my sister and had purchased a similar one in Fayetteville, so it was to my surprise and great fortune that I found a sister to that one in the same week. I'm not fond of overhead lighting and had been in search of smaller lighting that I could take with me if and when moving. For ten dollars, I had a steal. I discovered the tchotchke next to it from an antique store in Tomales, CA. I recall the lighting in the shop hitting it the same way, and when I opened it, I got a whiff of my great-grandma's house that I'd spent time running around as a child. Weird, I know, but I had to have it.

The out-of-focus photo is one a vendor on the Seine gave me while hitting on my two girlfriends. It's a pleasant memory of them and the view I had on my morning walk everyday while living in Paris. I'm both pleased and confused to say that I don't know where the ornate frame came from, but it was likely Target or Ross. I enjoy using fabric swatches for just about anything so I often rotate them and utilize them as coasters, as I did with this quilted gold sample a fellow designer friend gave me.
