When Rebecca and Peter Gadd decided to move their web-based pet apparel business to Oregon and build their dream home outside Portland they faced a logistical challenge. How could they oversee a custom home project in Oregon while living in Minnesota? They would have to manage the process remotely, and only make the move to Oregon after the home was already under construction. Their solution—build a prefab home. After extensive research, the Gadds’ selected Stillwater Dwellings, a Seattle based firm specializing in the design and fabrication of contemporary prefab homes. They were attracted because of Stillwater’s designs and their use of state-of-the-art project management processes. “We try and simplify the process of building a custom home, to make contemporary design available to more people” says Matthew Stannard, founder and CEO of Stillwater Dwellings, “Utilizing a combination of a well-defined prefab building system, technology, and advanced project management techniques our clients are able complete the process in less time and without surprises”.
