The color of the staircase brings a sense of personality to the space.

A staircase leads up from the common areas to the bedrooms.

The staircase handrail was custom designed by Unicus Developments specifically for this renovation. It’s constructed from a combination of iron and unlacquered brass. The craftsman applied a step notch—a linear cutout—to each stair tread.

A built-in pine bookcase integrates with the staircase and climbs one of the walls on the first and second levels.

"It was important to make clear that compact living does not mean losing space for all of your collected items," says Rocha.

Underneath vines hanging down from above, a dual-sided entertainment center provides partial separation of the public space. "We designed the dual functioning entertainment/bar fixture to visually separate the living and dining areas while remaining low enough to allow your eye to read the space as one continuous environment," says Melanie.

Each inch is accounted for in the 1,916-square-foot home. Cabinets and clever storage for wine are tucked under the stairs.
