Sneak Peek at LOT-EK's Pier 57

If you're in New York City for ICFF this weekend, stop by the Diane Von Furstenberg shop in the Meatpacking District for a sneak peek at LOT-EK's cutting-edge design for the new Pier 57. As you may have guessed, it's made out of shipping containers.

The architects will maintain the original 1952-built pier's basic structure, but will integrate recycled shipping containers into a 400,000-square-foot, four-story building. The structure will contain a mix of open markets, galleries, restaurants and retail, crowned with a rooftop park and amphitheater that will eventually become the new permanent home for outdoor screenings for the Tribeca Film Festival. The project breaks ground in 2012. In the meantime, check out this miniature version, on view now.
