The Hive Sauna is designed to disappear into a woodland, with a green roof, oversized timber shingle cladding, and large “punch-through” windows.

RIPAVI Oy’s saunas are wrapped in cross-laminated spruce. Their smallest model, the SOINTU1, has a compact design that is easily adaptable to mobile use—whether floating on a lake or pulled through the snow.

The designers wanted to use recyclable materials throughout the cabin to minimize its environmental footprint. They constructed the benchtops in the sauna (pictured here) and the kitchen, as well as the bedroom cabinetry.

Löyly can be reached by swimming out to the floating pontoon deck which have been fitted with hollow barrels for buoyancy, allowing the sauna to float.

A sauna was a non-negotiable part of the family's wish list. Because of Handa's clever layout, it fits comfortably into the 1,500-square-foot floor plan.
