Large sliding doors connect the living room to both the courtyard and a covered porch on the western side of the house.

A private entry allows guests to rest and explore as they please.

Cedar planks on the exterior walls are dyed black, and on the indoor walls, these cedar planks are dyed white.

“The house is a piece of origami made out of triangular shapes, which we then draped over the landscape,” says Arbel.

Supported on thin columns, the main volume hovers above the graveled entry, reaching out into the surroundings.

At dusk, the home emits a warm glow, appearing as a welcoming refuge in the landscape. The strong horizontality of the roof canopy visually accentuates the undulations of the surrounding landscape.

A 13-foot, cantilevered balcony extends from a second-floor bedroom; a third-floor balcony also enjoys a concrete balcony.

Casement windows let cooling breezes in from the west.

Photovoltaic panels have been installed on the sloped, south-facing volume.

"Sliding and swinging panels enable spaces to expand and contract as needed for the owners, a few guests, or large gathering," say the architects. "At the entry courtyard, a rolling screen and swinging gate can be configured to be cozy and private, or wide open and welcoming."

The gabled roof extends to the timber deck and is covered in natural slate tiles.

The home is clad in black-stained rough sawn cedar that has been sourced from Éco-Cèdre.
