A former power station in Melbourne’s city center was repurposed into a chic restaurant with six new connected levels. The architects kept the old building’s large arch windows and nooks, which certainly add more character to the modern interiors.

JG Domestic (Philadelphia, Pennslyvania) Located adjacent to Philadelphia’s bustling 30th Street Train Station, JG Domestic could have easily felt like an extension of the frenetic commuter hub. Instead, the mood inside is positively bucolic. A “living wall” of vegetation, plaid, striped, and burlap seating, and shelves lined with farmhouse trinkets lend the space tranquility. The lights on top of the shelves are custom by Créme.

Anchored on concrete piers at the higher end of the slope, the house shoots out over stilts, suspended in midair for a commanding view.

A rustic setting indeed. Between the tree trunk cross sections and mixed wood tones throughout the space, this beer house makes you feel like you are gathering in a Bavarian forest.

GUBI’s Beetle Chairs are used throughout the space in various textiles that represent a Nordic approach with Art Deco influences.

To evoke a connection to nature throughout the space, GamFratesi installed large botanical wall displays and plenty of greenery.

Flora Danica offers an abundance of natural light and direct access to the terrace from the large, Scandinavian-style dining room.

Maison du Danemark sits in Paris’ eighth arrondissement and acts as a host to cultural events, gatherings, exhibitions—and most recently seen the addition of two new restaurants designed by GamFratesi.
