This family home near Joshua Tree National Park was built out of a Bosch aluminum framing system assembled with a perforated steel decking and glass walls to create a bedroom wing and a living wing organized around two courtyards.

The curving, bulbous walls of the bath and shower reveal an unexpected secondary role as a screen for film projections, giving the house a sci-fi glow.

"We believe that architecture can change the environment and people, and influence the world around us," says Ovchinnikov. "DublDom for us is a tool and an opportunity to change the world, so it is important for us to create an affordable and massive architectural product that allows us to make large-scale changes."

A corrugated metal roofing, pine walls stained a warm blonde hue, and an abundance of glass make this modern prefab feel much roomier than its 1,600-square-feet size.

“The walls consist of a stick-framed stud wall with prefabricated structural insulated panels attached to it, made off-site in a facility to our design and specifications,” explains Gibson. “The roof structure consists of trusses built off-site.”

The jaunty boat-like shell of the Hütte Hut began with a case study undertaken by Brian and Katrina Manzo, a husband-and-wife team of industrial designers behind Sprouting Sprocket Studio.

Buhaus debuted an early version of their Studio Unit at the WestEdge Design Fair in Santa Monica last year.

Buhaus can be customized with a variety of finishes, and buyers can choose from a range of “editions”—from standard polished aluminum to black and even camouflage exteriors. The build time is approximately three months.
