Modern Showers

From luxurious marble to minimal piping, these excellent showers transform the bathroom.

The standing shower is set off by etched-glass panels supported by stainless-steel hardware. There is no threshold; instead, the tile within the shower zone slopes down very slightly to a floor trough with a custom stainless-steel grille. Along the wall, a Corian shelf—“the longest soap dish in the world,” resident Don Evans jokes—runs the length of the space.

In this modern renovation of a 200-year-old farmhouse, Tom Givone installed a tub in the master bath from Produits Neptune's Zen series, then clad it in planks salvaged from the demolition of the original farmhouse. Contrasting the contemporary fixtures is a 19th-century French chandelier. Photo by Mark Mahaney.

Though we love the custom teak-and-steel sink, shelving, shower caddy, mirror, shower, and vanity by Pat Carson Studio, the real coup of this bathroom is that the window at left goes from transparent to opaque with the touch of a button. The Duo Poliert dispensers beneath the shelf are from Blomus. A toilet opposite the sink is from Toto.
