Modern Living: Indoor/Outdoor

The challenge here was to make a seamless connection between the kitchen, dining, and living room, and the exterior, in a house that had a view of San Francisco Bay but no windows to take advantage of it. Let the view define the space. The living room opens onto the deck, becoming almost part of the deck when the glass doors are pushed open. The resurfaced fireplace and sleek mantle define an upscale look to what was actually a relatively modestly-priced project. The open floor plan encourages a sense of inclusiveness from the kitchen through the dining room to the deck, the Golden Gate Bridge visible in the distance.
