This barn is a reconstruction of a historic gambrel hay barn which had been partially destroyed in a catastrophic fire. We restored the exterior volumes of the barn and silo to remain contextual with the other farm buildings on site while the design team radically restructured the interior of the barn, completely removing the second floor to create a free volume. Public and private areas are connected spatially and through the use of durable, yet elegant, materials such as polished concrete and maple plywood. The interior and exterior connect visually through a wall of glass doors to the garden and fields beyond.
