A rare find designed by acclaimed architecture firm Crites and McConnell in 1965, the Kitzman House features floor-to-ceiling windows and a warm, cedar-paneled interior.

The home was built in 1964 and is one of 80 homes developed by Eichler and designed by Jones and Emmons in Orange's Fairhills neighborhood. Like most Eichlers, it features a fairly closed facade with few windows.

The low-slung profile of the home was preserved, and all of the windows and doors were replaced for better insulation and energy efficiency.

“The kitchen is seamlessly integrated into the living space, and is highly functional without too much glamour,” the homeowner says.

The renovation didn’t change the structure of the home.

Mark and Will chose to keep the walls largely bare, celebrating the house itself as a piece of art. They furnished the interior by reusing some of their favorite existing pieces—including the Eames Aluminum Group and Florence Knoll lounge chairs—augmented with similar classics and a few special pieces for character.

San Francisco–based Michael Hennessey Architecture paid homage to Eichler's affinity for open spaces by reconfiguring the living area on the upper floor and moving the kitchen to organically connect the rooms.

The elongated midcentury facade of 946 W. Ceres Road is classic Palm Springs and features beautiful native landscaping by a local landscape architect.
