Nearly all of the furnishings in the apartment are by friends and peers of the local New York design scene: The daybed sofa is by Farrah Sit, the hand-dyed shibori pillows are by Rebecca Atwood, the coffee table is by Fort Standard, and the incense burner is by Apparatus.

The living area features a Petrie sofa from Crate & Barrel and a Wassily chair by Marcel Breuer from Knoll. A vintage walnut coffee table by Lane Furniture sits atop a rug that the couple purchased at Weisshouse, a Pittsburgh home-furnishings store.

“Walnut is everybody's favorite right now so I work with that a lot—and the smell of it when it's being cut is one of my favorite smells in the world, so that's fine with me. It's a delight to work with. The materiality of this table and the relationship of the brass to the walnut is really what drives this design.”

The front parlor is a visitor’s first hint of the mix of furniture Tina Seidenfaden Busck has assembled for her showroom the Apartment. A pouffe from Azucena is matched with an array of vintage pieces: a Beni Ourain rug from Morocco, a mirrored chest of drawers from France, and a Finn Juhl Poet sofa. “[We wanted to] discover and leverage the latent potential hidden under all the unpleasantness,” Young says. “The living room had a nice scale to it. The orientation was set up with a good relationship to the sun and the yard.” A custom sofa and vintage chairs surround a Platner table.
