The A45 is outfitted with a petite kitchen designed by Københavns Møbelsnedkeri.

The gray-blue siding continues from the exterior to the interior to reinforce the seamless indoor-outdoor experience. The Callen chair and ottoman are from Room and Board.

A wedge-shaped skylight allows natural light to suffuse the interiors. The architects preserved a palette of dark, natural materials on the ground floor.

The great room features an open floor plan, as well as a vaulted tongue-and-groove ceiling.

Wood paneling and clerestory windows add to the authentic midcentury charm.

Exterior materials are repeated in the interior, from the board-and-batten redwood siding to the concrete masonry walls.

In Los Angeles, homeowner Bill Thompson warmed up his otherwise dark living room with a series of Douglas fir slats applied above the fireplace, as well as other wood accents throughout the room; the slats provide both texture and pattern to the fireplace, acting as a focal point and emphasizing the space's vertical height.

Sandy Chilewich and architect Joe Sultan, proprietors of textiles firm Chilewich|Sultan designed their own vacation home together in Columbia County, in upstate New York. On a simple wooded lot, they developed a contemporary loft-style home with furnishings from B&B Italia, Feel Good side chairs by Flexform, and a suspended, contemporary Ergofocus fireplace from Focus.

Rows of globe lights featured throughout the rooms cast light in all directions—including up at the ceiling.

The studio is set upon a floating concrete slab. The wood-wrapped facade provides passive cooling through cross ventilation.

A light-filled living room is anchored by a modern hearth and features a lofty tongue-and-groove ceiling that references the home's midcentury roots. Floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors provide the potential for indoor/outdoor living during the warmer months.

In the lofted study, a Rakks modular shelf system was recessed into the drywall and topped with laminate boards. A white oak ceiling and flooring are found throughout the home, adding warmth to the minimalist palette.

Living

The living room area is bright and spacious. New carpeting has been installed throughout, and the interiors have been given a fresh coat of paint. Radiant heating warms the home in winter months.

Lim + Lu decided to bring elements of nature into the space, transforming this new home into a haven to escape from the fast-paced lifestyle of the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong. The view of offices and apartments across the street from the living room windows are replaced by a row of lush greenery.

A pull-down dining table makes the most of the cabins' 431 square feet. A sleeping area can be glimpsed above.

The energy-efficient Dickerman Residence by Richard Pedranti Architect boasts warm wood ceilings, midcentury-inspired furnishings, and a stately stone fireplace.
