Living Room

A custom bookshelf doubles as a staircase that leads to a lofted play space.

Born outfitted the living room of the original house with vertical slats on which to mount any manner of visual material. Artwork becomes easy to move around, but Lloyd-Butler likes the placement of a painting by Wayne Gonzales depicting Lee Harvey Oswald.

In a corner of the living room, where concrete floors provide a minimalist aesthetic, a trio of pendants designed by Frederik Roije suspend near a Gispen 412 armchair and a glass side table, also designed by Frederik Roije.

Daniel J. Strening designed the Accessory Dwelling Unit to provide additional space for extended family. The team used a simple palette of materials and soft edges to blend the building into the landscape.

The dining area features a flexible, rolling table and benches that can accommodate up to 12 guests. New York, New York Dwell Magazine : November / December 2017

For the living room, Caroline chose lounge chairs from Australia’s Barnaby Lane, a coffee table from Sobu, Maiden Home sofas, and a Moroccan rug from Muima.

The living room flows effortlessly out to the courtyard. This unity is underscored by the living room’s blue shag rug from the Shag Rug Company.

The large trifold glass doors help to flood the art studio with sunlight.
