For three months beginning in August 2014, London-based interiors and furniture designer Ilse Crawford takes over Copenhagen design gallery The Apartment with a mix of rich materials and a subdued color palette. One of two brand-new pieces that make their debut at the showroom, operated by dealer Tina Seidenfaden Busck, include velvet-covered The Ilse Sofa by George Smith of Studioilse.
One of Shively's top priorities was an innovative lighting scheme that would combat the dark interiors that many narrow Chicago homes create. Thanks to centrally located skylights and rows of bulbs between wood beams, the house enjoys an even glow and details like this Le Corbusier chair aren't obscured.
The Singlcue device, seen here just below the TV, was designed to be visually ubobstrusive and blend into any living room. The Singlecue wirelessly connects with a wide range of TVs, cable boxes, media streamers (like Roku, Apple TV, Xbox One), and even smart lighting like Phillips Hue. Once connected, short movements of your pointer finger can control each system. However, Singlecue's ability to recognize a miniscule finger 16.5 feet away was only half the battle.
A full list of compatible products can be found here; Singlecue will continue to add compatibility with more devices in the future. For example, it will work with the Nest Learning Thermostat in the next few months.
In the couple’s art-filled living room, a vintage coffee table sits atop a rug by Gunta Stölzl, purchased from Design Within Reach. To accommodate get-togethers with friends and family (Peart’s twin brother, Dexter, lives in a neighboring unit with his wife and daughter), they sought a sofa that could hold 10 to 15 people at a time. The George sectional, designed by Antonio Citterio for B&B Italia, fit the bill.
