Living room
Spread across two lots, the house has two wings: One acts as a more private, residential area, and the other is a communal living space. The designers sought to create “small, private, comfortable homes that were then tied back to a space for gathering, performance, creation, and events,” says architect James Carse, cofounder of Alao.
For ventilation, many of the valley-facing windows, measuring 10 ½ feet tall, feature a section at the top or bottom that opens. Navy 111 chairs, part of Emeco’s Coca-Cola edition, sit at the heads of a Restoration Hardware table; WAC track lights provide illumination. The floors are made of poured-in-place concrete.
