The architects defined the new entry sequence with black-stained paneling, inserted within a white oak volume that has a vertical-raked pattern to the wood.

The eat-in kitchen also boasts a stylish dining set composed of a travertine marquetry and brass inlay pedestal dining table from the 1970s paired with Thonet 209 bentwood and cane dining chairs. The lighting is Italian pendant lighting made of Murano glass and chrome from the 1970s by ZeroQuattro.

A cylindrical glass staircase with Western red cedar and painted steel mullions dominates the front of the house. The stair treads, along with the floor, are made of recycled spotted gum.

The interior palette is a mix of warm neutrals and vivid pops of color.

A coat of Dunn Edwards White brightens up the spaces now. A table from Henrybuilt is surrounded by Eames chairs and sits atop a rug from Nordic Knots. The pendant light is Gerald Thurston for Lightolier and was purchased at a local vintage store called the Sunshine Shop.

The exposed wood ceiling, white paint, and concrete floor keep the room consistent with the rest of the home.

The dining room also received double glass exterior doors to join it to the new deck, as well as leaded glass units on the back wall.

The entry between the living room and dining room was widened.

Atelier Branco built 3,229 square feet of shelving units to house all of the client's texts, documents, and books.

The wooden ribbon features integrated storage. The display shelves are backed by decorative brass panels by Egger.

A long linear balcony runs the length of the light-filled living room. The Foxy sofa by Ana Roque Interiors echoes the curves of the wooden ribbon. A SANAA Rabbit Ears chair adds whimsy.

The view from the dining area toward the front entrance shows the wooden ribbons on either side. “The fluidity of the space encourages and fosters movement as well as creativity,” says Toledano.

The clients restored the living room's marble fireplace and painted the grate Benjamin Moore Black. New crown molding was added and the walls painted Sherwin Williams Origami White.

The parlor floor features an open floor plan that maximizes the interplay of light and space. A wall of casement windows frames the area, drenching the entire floor with warm natural light.

In the dining room, black light fixtures by Brokis visually connect to other black architectural details, like the window frames and light switches.

Original filigreed columns provide a unique backdrop in the living space.
