Reinterpreting iconic elements of rural architecture with a contemporary spin, we gave this new home a fresh and friendly character. Rolling barn doors, exposed trusses, and wood siding have been refined in design, but remain true to their function. The heart of the house is the double-height living/dining room, where a fireplace built of thin, crisply chiseled slices of Pennsylvania bluestone rises dramatically to the ceiling. This great room occupies one wing of the floor plan; a guest suite and patio are the link to the other wing, which houses the family’s bedrooms, baths, and offices. These personal spaces continue the distinctive aesthetic of the great room, but at a more intimate scale.
