Lakeview Kitchen

This kitchen renovation started in the dining room. With ambitions for a grander elegant space for frequent dinner parties, the typical strategy of opening the dining to the kitchen caught some side-eye until it was conceived as a reversal of the trend of open kitchen/casual dining. Here the purpose was to make the dining room a grander gallery, so the kitchen is just as refined as the elegant dining hall.

The design balances modern restraint with ebullient hand-crafted expression. Much like an art gallery, the color palette and the minimalist detailing of cabinets, appliances, & electrical appurtenances all disappear – but that does not create a cold emptiness but rather highlights artifacts and custom elements, which range from a mosaic tile rug to ancestral paintings and inherited antiques. Glossy surfaces reflect the calming views in three directions of the hillside waterfall, forest, and lake.

The food preparation areas are subtly hidden from the serving spaces by a marble counter, while the overall sense of kitchen and dining are united and elevated to an elegance atypical of kitchens.
