“The concept for this home was really to create a ‘loft-like’ space contained within very simple volumes,” architect Tammy Angaran explains. The open floor plan and ten-foot ceilings help create the loft-like feel of the space.

Spread over 4,000 square feet, the home includes two bedrooms, and three and a half bathrooms. “With the ten-foot ceilings, we wanted windows that could extend to the ceiling to emphasize the loft-like nature of the main spaces,” says Angaran.

An open floor plan and expansive windows from the Marvin Ultimate line allow clear sightlines from the front entry through the dining room to the backyard.

The interior is lined almost entirely in birch plywood panels.

The master bedroom is furnished with a rug from IKEA and a Mysa bedframe from Chilton Furniture Co.

Type Five's planning process makes it possible for owners to choose exactly where windows go. In this ADU, two windows overlook surrounding trees.

A full bedroom sits on one end of this ADU, with a second bedroom on the opposite end, for privacy.
