A simple kitchen gives way to a vintage dining table, one of many pieces Zara and James found online. Sliding glass doors help bring the outside in.

The wildflowers on the roof can be seen through the skylights throughout the day. A duo of sliders allows for a clear connection to the garden.

Strom designed the ADU with Isaiah. They went for gray-green Ikea cabinetry that wraps two sides of the room. “It’s one thing to have a wall of cabinets, but if you can turn it around a corner, it makes it look much more tailored to the space,” Strom says.

Danny fitted the kitchen into an alcove outfitted with Ikea cabinets and Semihandmade fronts. The refrigerator is by LG. On the jute rug from Armadillo, chairs from Threshold join a table from Inside Weather.

North-facing sliders, from Milgard, fill the ADU interior with natural light. The Benjamin Moore wall paint was customized to match a swatch of nude leather. The desk at left is from Akron Street.

At 1,026 square feet, being conscious of clutter can be particularly pertinent. Small storage hacks, like this tidy spice and wine rack in the kitchen, save time and repeated headaches in the long run.

The light-soaked kitchen and breakfast nook are accented with a blue rug from Anthropologie, pottery from Portugal, and a custom bench seat from Etsy.

Additional storage hidden under the breakfast nook bench helps maximize every square inch.

Brooke and Tobi found the dining table on Craigslist, from a Eugene carpenter who specializes in refinishing vintage furniture. The chairs and light are vintage, and the white oak banquette is designed by Boyer, with Brooke’s love of the Audo hotel for inspiration. “They have a dining area that has an insert in the back of the dining bench to lean photos and pictures,” says Brooke.

From the opposite angle, it becomes apparent how important it was to remove the support post and add in a new header to open up the views between rooms. “I think it changes everything,” says Amber. The large rugs were picked up on Amber’s travels, and she hasn’t had rooms big enough to display them until now.

Maple shelves were stained to match the cabinets, joined by white quartz on the counters.

Two-tone cabinets anchor the kitchen, including stained white oak on the bottom and white uppers.

One of Amber’s favorite features in in the house is the splash of color in the kitchen backsplash, via a tile called 'Unfading' green slate from Vermont Structural Slate Company.

The extension’s exterior walls and roof is wrapped in Scottish larch cladding.
