For her "No Ordinary Kitchen" renovation, Amber Lewis created a mood board featuring a unified palette of warm beige, gray, and white; the matte black faucet topping the sink and oil-rubbed bronze cabinet hardware provide a stark contrast. Against this backdrop, stainless steel appliances by Signature Kitchen Suite offer a material and chromatic departure.

A no-fuss sensibility permeates the house. For example, the utilitarian kitchen has laminate cabinets, a stainless-steel countertop, and a Miele stove and dishwasher. The refrigerator is by Fisher & Paykel. No. 18 chairs from Thonet and a reclaimed-hardwood table are stationed atop a vintage Persian soumak rug from Turkey.
The house is made of simple off-the-shelf materials. The beams are standard two-by-fours and the floors on the first level are polished concrete.
For their new kitchen, Michaël Verheyden and Saartje Vereecke incorporated a Smeg cooktop, oven, and range hood, stainless steel cabinets from Habitat, and personal accessories like a prototype goblet.
Shane Michael Pavonetti, an Austin-based architect and contractor, and his wife, Holly, built their eco-friendly home on a lean budget of $175,000. The cedar siding used on the exterior reappears throughout the house. Keen on recycling the wood, the couple added shelving to their kitchen as well.

Apartment MR is a minimal interior located in Oerias, Portugal, designed by phdd. The kitchen is adapted to modern use, giving the space a simultaneous condition of passage of coexistence. The counters and backdrop utilize marble, a material that is naturally antibacterial and easy to clean. The floor consists of pine wood that creates a subtle contrast against the walls, and creates a balanced compromise between the current intervention and the pre-existing building.
The kitchen is the only zone of the house without protective shutters, so the glazing was toughened to the highest standard.
To reinforce a streamlined aesthetic, materials move from the inside out and from room to room. A Caesarstone countertop in the kitchen extends through a window to the backyard. The basalt path in the house continues outside and up the outdoor stairs.
The kitchen contains an island countertop made of Corian in Glacier White.
Featuring reclaimed wood from the original house, a single sliding door covers only half of the kitchen pantry. As the door slides, china and glassware are revealed on one side; the other side holds Anne’s design library and favored heirlooms. The sliding door follows a track installed in the concrete underfloor; the shelves are supported by recessed steel brackets, strong enough to hold the weight of a man—or a baby. An additional full-size pantry is located inside the laundry room, toward the original bungalow.
The appliances are by Miele, and the sink and faucet are by Blanco. In the dining area, a Link Suspension lamp by LZF hangs above the Minotti table and chairs. The artwork is by Nathan Coley.
