The kitchen features a six-sided commercial double-pane skylight.

Outdoor entertaining is made easy with an Outdooroven XL by Weltevree that can be used as a barbecue, smoker, and pizza oven. The custom-made cabinetry is constructed from waterproofed plywood doors and stainless steel mounts.

The updated kitchen features an Elite Tile backsplash, white quartz countertops, and new plumbing and lighting.

The galley kitchen features a beamed ceiling with clerestory windows. Modern cabinetry and stainless steel appliances round out the minimalist space.

The kitchen is equipped with new, high-end appliances, and is located right off the living room.

The elegant eat-in kitchen is one of the highlights of the renovation. It features a center island clad in Carrara marble, sleek custom cabinetry, and high-end appliances from Fisher & Paykel. There is also a skylight which floods the space with natural light.

A Tillary sectional sofa in bone faux suede and a Box Frame coffee table with a whitewashed-wood top, both from West Elm, outfit the seating area.

For the sink area, Serra specified American Standard's Orchard Apron sink in white. The faucet, also by American Standard, is the pull-down Fresno Culinary model. Muuto's Fluid pendant light is suspended from the ceiling.

The main floor hosts the open-plan living areas and a full bath. In the kitchen, black walnut cabinets are topped with counters composed of Baltic birch plywood with Fenix laminate. The floor is honed gray concrete throughout.

Ceaserstone in Blizzard was used for the perimeter countertop, and Silestone in Lusso for the island top and the waterfall edges.

The open plan great room is bright and airy thanks to the insertion of the center courtyard .

Before: SHED redesigned the kitchen as a series of interconnected functional zones, which are linked by a continuous kitchen counter. This approach allowed the architects to increase usable space without modifying the house’s exterior. It also helped to visually connect the kitchen with the living area, while still maintaining separation via the walnut plywood cabinets and solid walnut eating counter, which serve as partitions.

The original kitchen countertops (on the left) are made of teak salvaged from the Battleship Colorado, which was dismantled in 1960 in Bremerton, Washington. Built by master craftsman Flemming Sorensen, the surface is screwed down, and the screws are plugged—mimicking the way the deck of a boat is installed.

This airy home makes the most of its beachside location with sustainable design, careful siting, and an expansive, glazed facade.
