The Simple Cabin:

When I was a kid I used to draw houses as a rectangle with a door, one window and a triangle roof on top. I'm wondering who got their hands on those blueprints...

Deep Catskill Cabin:

Amidst the old structures nestled throughout the crooked woods of Catskill State Park, it's easy to point out which dwellings are someone's fresh upstate NY getaway. There's nothing quite like Lincoln Logs to inspire that next cabin project.

The Side Porch:

Ever since I was young I've always seen faces on houses. This one was grinning at me with its teal curtain eyes and bright orange teeth, inviting me inside.

The Lakesider:

Pennsylvania's historic Route 6 peacefully winds its way along the upper half of the state. Along it, you'll cut through Allegheny State Forest, pass by the famed night sky preserve of Cherry Springs State Park, and also stumble upon some hidden cabin gems like this one.

The Silver Moon:

I came across this cabin on Lake Crescent called Silver Moon. When it caught my eye, it was framed almost perfectly between two ancient mossy trees. What you see in this image is what I first saw when I laid eyes on it. The PNW at its best right there.

Valerie:

The Pacific Northwest is more or less cabin central; so I found it fitting when I stumbled upon a small community of quaint little homes nestled along Lake Crescent. Each had a name above its doorway. This one was Valerie.

The Communal Cabin:

The off-white simplicity of these retreat huts might appear drab to some, but people always say, "location, location, location!" With your forested neighbors just a stones-throw away at this Pacific Northwest getaway spot, I guess you could call this cabin suburbia.

Upper-Scale Peninsula:

I had the great pleasure of spending nine days at this beast of a cabin in Michigan's Upper Peninsula with some friends last spring. Deep in the backwoods, the structure sits atop a small hill overlooking a private lake with row boats and all. The exterior shows itself as an A-frame but inside you'll find it's anything but - spacious with five bedrooms, a kitchen and two common areas. And I can't forget our furry friend, Georgia, master of the fluorescent hunting cap.

Fall Foliage Dream:

I'm convinced there's no better fall foliage on earth than in the Catskills. Not only is it my favorite time of year but it also makes each humble abode pop against the bright orange and yellow backdrop. I'd probably drop everything I'm doing to live in this hut right now.

The Downsizer:

If you were renting this little hut out on Air B&B, the clientele would most certainly all be gnomes. Then again, tiny houses are all the rage these days. It's about the simple life, after all!

Puckett Cabin:

Of all the sights I witnessed on my first trip down the Blue Ridge Parkway, this ancient cabin exemplifies them the best. Named after Orlean Puckett, this gem of a cabin has been uninhabited since 1939. It stands as an ode to her goodwill as an esteemed midwife in southern Virginia during the late 1800's.
