Timothy’s grandfather built the small wooden wall cabinet (now hanging beside the fireplace) to house his collection of screws. Each box in the cabinet features his sketch of the type of screw inside. “We knew we wanted it as soon as we saw it in Tim's parents’ basement,” says Maureen. The photo leaning against the wall is one of the classic shots Elliott Landy took of The Band.

Maureen and Timothy use the back parlor mostly for leisure, so Maureen added a thick shag rug to soften the mood. The rug, as well as the Bertoia chairs and tulip table are from DWR.

“Timothy and I think it is important to incorporate our own work into our daily surroundings," says Maureen. "We enjoy seeing our work side by side with the other works we have collected.”

Everything brought to the island must be transported by boat or barge, so furniture is minimal. Carsten purchased the 1960 Rais wood stove more than a decade ago with the intention of using it in a cabin one day.

All paints and oils used throughout the home have low VOCs, and there are rainwater storage tanks and a solar system outside.

Hemlock beams lend warmth to the living space, which is outfitted with a pair of 1970s director’s chairs.

Strategically placed glass doors and windows provide ample ventilation during hot summer months.

Floor-to-ceiling windows connect the primary living areas on both levels to the surrounding lot. Motorized shades from J Geiger allow residents to seek privacy within the home.

On the first floor there is the sleeping area comprising two single bedrooms and one double bedroom

In the dining area, an AGO Cirkus chandelier hangs over a Laurel table from Burke Decor. The black Salt chairs are from Design Within Reach, and the Stature end chair is from CB2.

The chairs in the Izquierdo family’s dining room were designed by Cristián’s father, who is also an architect.

The lattice-like bookcase separating the living room and family room is part of a design approach that Cristián says “blurs the line between building and furniture.” The walls and floors are concrete in all of the units.

In the Izquierdos’ living room, the slipcovered sofas were designed by Cristián based on specifications by his wife, Maida. The rug was made by a Chilean artisan whom the couple met on a trip, and the Anna XXL armchairs by Crassevig were a wedding gift.
