Throughout, Erik and Bill repeated and “wrapped” materials, like the birch plywood near the front entrance, which extends from the bench to the coat rack.

The master bathroom is outfitted with a Victorian ash counter with a Nood Co blush-pink vessel sink. The tiles seen here are by Artedomus.

The team also created a kitchen island with a gray lapatro-finish granite top and a rose gold stainless steel base. The vase is from Domo.

“When I walk through the house, I remember putting the plywood on the ceilings, which was not fun at all. But there’s a satisfaction in having been part of that process,” notes Craig.

Black-and-white walls, polished basalt floors, and oak ceilings give the interiors a simple, pared-back aesthetic that allow the nature outdoors to take center stage.

Each room in the home has views to one of two courtyards or the roof garden. A window seat in the living room embraces the transition between interior and exterior.

The architect integrated a dining table into the kitchen island, embracing the common Australian practice of gathering informally in the kitchen.

A custom aluminum-framed skylight with a 3M solar membrane floods the bathroom shower with light; the fixture is by Castel.

In the office, existing track lighting illuminates cabinetry covered in Lemon Bar by Miller Paint.

Big Branch Woodworking and Lackey Construction fabricated the cabinetry throughout the home, including the birch built-ins in the mudroom, designed by Jessica Helgerson Interior Design. Each family member has his or her own cubby with storage for coats, shoes, hats and gloves, with built-in outlets for charging iPhones.

Family members have their own areas in the mudroom. Each is equipped with a hanging basket and a repurposed teak shower mat.

Natural wood along the floor and ceiling complements black windows and beams in the living room. Large windows and doors illuminate the space with natural light.
