A hallmark of the indoor-outdoor bathrooms is chukum, a smooth stucco popularized by the Mayans.

Fir-veneer plywood wraps the entire interior of a compact guest cabin with a 12-by-15-foot footprint, smaller than a single-car garage.

The ground floor of the bedroom wing includes a sitting room and a master suite. The two kids’ bedrooms are located upstairs.

Slatted built-ins frame the glass vestibule that connects to the entry to the right and opens up to the outdoor deck on the left.

In the living room, the painting is by Geoff McFetridge and the wood paneling is original to the house. “Jewel-y color and simple shapes—they feel right in this house,” says interior designer Jessica Helgerson.

In the office, existing track lighting illuminates cabinetry covered in Lemon Bar by Miller Paint.

The sandstone flooring continues inside, as does the wall-hung bench, for a seamless look. The new white oak front door was custom-designed by Miles Woofter, and built and carved by Chuck Newport, the builder on the project. Glass on two sides brings plentiful natural light inside and better sight lines between inside and out.

Country Garden House | Olson Kundig

Olson Kundig's Country Garden House ekes out as much window space as possible. Gardens designed in collaboration with notable plantsman Dan Hinkley are visible from every room, and window walls in the living area allow the gardens to become a part of the home.

Materials enhance this natural connection, reflecting the silvery hues of the overcast sky of the Pacific Northwest and tying the building to the forest floor.

Scrubby Bay is completely private yet still connected—guests have access to Wi-Fi, digital television, and even laundry services and catered meals.

Räsymatto bedding by Marimekko in the studio is complemented by a green Anglepoise lamp from Sydney boutique Planet Furniture.

The best-known furnishings made by Sticotti’s studio are bookshelves suspended from a wooden rail. They appear in the second-floor living room.
