On the other side of the bar on the second floor is the light-filled Conservatory, which occupies a three-story, glass atrium on the building’s street-facing side. Across from the glass is a teeming plant wall inspired by Little Shop of Horrors. At night, a DJ booth descends into the space and encourages an evening lounge atmosphere.
Wide Plank oak floors, hand milled, 480 pounds of cut nails for install flooring throughout the home, custom leather sofas with chevron pattern from "Of Iron & Oak", silver maple flitch sawn coffee table, cast concrete fireplace surround, exposed oak and steel frame, antique furniture, and long horn skull
The open living-and-bedroom area of Ian Hague’s rural retreat can be divided by a wall that rises from within the master-suite platform. Interior designer Elaine Santos blended her client’s collection of vintage furniture with no-fuss pieces like a Shaker-style bench by Ilse Crawford for De La Espada.
The Virgin chambers break the fusty hotel room mold with a layout that maximizes light and entry space, while placing crucial storage near the entry. Sliding doors can close off the sleeping chamber from the anteroom, which is used as a dressing room with adjacent water closet and shower room. The wardrobes are by Poliform, the flooring is Porcelanosa, and the sink is by Kohler.
A vintage 1950s credenza discovered in Paris supports three works by Aumas and two Sol LeWitt–inspired cubes used in one of his window displays. The daybed is an eBay purchase reupholstered in fabric from Kvadrat and the dark paint is from Dulux Valentine. Aumas found the photographer’s lamp at a Brussels flea market.
The old wood floors throughout the open-plan space are painted a dark eggplant. The vintage PP19 armchair is by Hans J. Wegner for PP Møbler. The painting above it is by Ruben Toledo, a friend of Peter Fehrentz, the resident. A trio of Tom Dixon lights hangs over the Pirkka dining table, with bench seating by Ilmari Tapiovaara for Artek. The Berber rug is from Morocco, purchased from the Paris shop Caravane.
