Antique furniture and a portrait of Nicole's grandmother welcome visitors to the home. The vintage wall sconces pick up the pretty duck egg blue trim on the door and skirting boards.

Tongue-and-groove panelling is more in keeping with the style of the home, notes Isaza-Smith. The mirror was custom made by xxx and the wall sconces are vintage finds. The vanity was retained from the previous bathroom and given a facelift with new cabinet doors and hardware.

A freestanding tub is now the star of the bathroom. The shower curtain rail above was custom made for the room.

With plenty of storage and pretty details like the scalloped pantry doors and oversized pendant light by Lana Launay, the new kitchen blends practicality with whimsy.

The couple removed a nib wall to open up the kitchen and dining area and improve the home's sense of flow.

Now the kitchen feels generous and connected to the beautiful landscape outside with a big picture window over the sink and large bifold doors.

New plantings provide privacy for the glass-walled shower in the master bathroom. The matte black fixtures are by Phoenix.

"Before there was a full-sized fridge that jutted out and blocked the clerestories," says Jessy, who replaced the clunky kitchen appliance with inconspicuous CoolDrawer units by Fisher & Paykel. With the exception of the Falmec range hood, all the appliances are now built into lower cabinets, which were fabricated by Dan Eckstrom. The vibrant encaustic tile is by Mission Tile West. The oven is by Fisher & Paykel.

Flanked by triangular windows, the organic-shaped fireplace bears a striking resemblance to another hearth in a confirmed Cody home from the period. The couple replaced the aged floor-to-ceiling windows with more energy-efficient glazing by Monumental, while replicating the original wood stocks. The driftwood coffee table is vintage. A Berber carpet warms the concrete flooring.

When the couple noticed tile poking out of the ground near the front door, they began excavating. To their surprise, they discovered a rectangular reflecting pool that had been buried due to neglect. Now a concrete bridge leads over the rebuilt water feature to the front door, which is painted an eye-catching orange to match its original color.

Before: While the original Ford design with extensive windows overlooking the yard remained intact, other changes, like the delicate marble fireplace, looked out of place.

Lake Flato Architects extended the brick around the fireplace across the entire wall, then added a steel beam to be able to remove the columns and lift the ceiling height. Office of Tangible Space added a Sofa by De Sede, Rug by Beni Rugs, and chair by Shiro Kuramata for Cassina.

Yuan added skylights throughout the house to bring more light into the interior, including this one over the central island, which also has pendants by In Common With. The floors are by D’Hanis Terracotta Tile.

Office of Tangible Space tapped artist Rafael Uriegas for a mural to cover the hallway leading to the children's rooms.
