"We wanted to keep the exterior walls uncluttered, so you can focus on the views, the light, and the air," says Rosa Garneau, the owner of a 650-square-foot co-op in New York's Chelsea neighborhood. In the breakfast nook, a Snowball pendant by Poul Henningsen is suspended above a marble-topped Tulip table by Eero Saarinen. General contractor Don Tankersley built the kitchen cabinets.

A pivot-hung door

Together, the louvered sections of fence and the trellised roof overhangs paint the breezeway with shadows.

Inspired by the fence from the Kaufmann House in Palm Springs, Greg and Kirsten chose local basalt for the new privacy wall.

Although synthetic slate roof tiles have been around since the 1970s, the way architect Stephen Bruns used them to completely clad Woven House is unusual. "I love this material," says Bruns. "The way light reflects off the tiles creates a specular effect, almost like a mosaic." That reflective quality is enhanced by the floor-to-ceiling windows by Loewen.

A custom leather sofa lifts to reveal battery storage. The custom maple cabinetry is stained and painted in Benjamin Moore’s Swiss Coffee.

The 34-foot-long Airstream Excella was gutted and renovated by Innovative Spaces in Santa Barbara, California.

All of the home’s interior walls were finished in plaster.
