Homes I Love
Interior furnishings and spaces are stylishly composed, blending dark accents with pastel colors and pure white walls. Raw materials such as wood, stone, and metal add warmth and texture. Custom furniture and vintage pieces meld contemporary notions with historic character. Sophisticated lighting styled from scenography creates a subdued ambiance of light and shadow.
Inspired by historic American farmhouses, a modern dwelling at the base of the Rocky Mountain Foothills in West Boulder, Colorado was designed by Boulder-based firm Surround Architecture. At the transition between the living room and kitchen, firewood is stored in a metal box that projects out from the wall, announcing itself with its contrasting color and slim profile.
Method Homes—also based in Seattle—builds prefab homes with unlimited customization. They work with local architects as well as their own to design sustainable prefabricated homes that can be built to obtain LEED, ENERGY STAR, Living Building Challenge, Passive House, and other environmental certification standards. They build off-site in a custom facility, and deliver throughout most of the United States, and even certain areas in Canada.
