The newly expanded kitchen/dining area opens to the deck via doors from Hope’s Windows. There a pair of Butterfly chairs from Circa50 joins water-resistant resin Daniel planters by Crescent Garden. “So now, after essentially scooping out the entire interior of the previous house, we’ve got a great place—and, by far, the best-looking backside (of a house) in northwest Washington, DC,” Daniel says.
The architects divided the home into separate floors for sleeping, living, and working. Since the house is situated on a hill that slopes 20 feet from top to bottom, there are plenty of stairs. Those pictured above were crafted using wood salvaged from a 100-year-old bungalow that previously stood on the site.
Matthew Hufft designed the house that he shares with his wife, Jesse, and their three children to sit inconspicuously among its neighbors in the Roanoke Park area of Kansas City, Missouri. The backyard and porch, which is furnished with a Saarinen Round Dining Table and Emeco Navy chairs, is a popular setting for warm-weather entertaining.
