A built-in desk and shelving unit crafted in oak make the study a serene place for Dan to work from home. “The joinery is what links the geometry of the mansard and the curved walls,” says architect Oliver Cooke. “It makes the space feel sculpted rather than fitted in.”

The stairs from the first floor lead directly into the new study, which opens out to a generous roof terrace.

Repurposed Douglas fir (leftovers from concrete formwork from the house build) was used on the ceiling, with a Velux skylight. The custom Douglas Fir bookshelf was designed and fabricated by Kevin, with a desktop made from salvaged pine by Vintage Mill Werks and a Hay stool.

Matte black subway tile from Home Depot surrounds the shower and Kohler tub. The ceiling is natural Douglas fir.

The same white oak flooring continues on this level, combined with built-in storage by Kevin, using Ikea cabinets with a custom natural oak countertop leading into the dressing room.

The cabinets are IKEA frames with 'BASIS Natural Oak’ fronts by Reform.

The European white oak flooring is ‘Crystal Thunder’ by Riva Floors.

Now, the main kitchen opens to the rear deck via large sliding glass doors, and the dining room is in the former kitchen space.
