This house is located in Garabito, Puntarenas, within an hour distance driving from San José. In a private community in mountain site overlooking the ocean a couple kilometers away from the beaches.
For this location and under these conditions, we proposed a scheme with private exterior façades since the house is located in a corner, but completely open to the interior.
The house plan was designed in a narrow L shape with an average width of four meters in all of its length. This scheme allowed us to ventilate and illuminate naturally every room in the house. The interior faces, were the social areas and terraces are located, get the most of the northern light and great views to the mountain forest reserve, which is brought in through the patio and pool, diluting the division between interior and exterior.
We were interested in simulating the typology of the surrounding constructions by using common elements such as articulated roofs, natural Stone covered walls, windows that can be operated, large overhangs, natural textures and light colors; But trying to create a new composition, with slightly abstract volumes, where shadows, textures and different depths contribute to compose a new tropical atmosphere.
