The long, rectangular window is a favorite of Mattias’ cat, who love to perch on its ledge and watch over the neighboring garden.
Honka prepares their building system so that logs arrive on site pre-cut to their exact sizes, drilled for electrical wiring, sealed, and tagged with an ID that notes the assembly location.
The couple worked with Seattle-based firm SHED Architecture + Design on a remodel. At the front door the glass clerestory and sidelite were kept, but the solid door swapped out for a transparent one.
The clients wished to build their home with resilient materials which referenced the agricultural history of the land and blended in with the natural colors and textures of the surrounding landscape.
The home’s exterior materiality is a tapestry of corrugated metal, cedar, and brick.
