When Adrienne and Jonathan bought the Neo-Georgian-style home, the interiors featured a dark palette. They worked with interior designer Jason VanWarren, principal at Ellsworth Home, to lighten the spaces and bring back in or accentuate existing period details. The runner on the central staircase is from Crosby Street Studios.

The hidden tracks blend seamlessly into the design of the stairs and allow for the louvers to close.

In the living room, the built-in daybed was fabricated by Michael Mellon and Benjamin Winslow out of old growth redwood. The rugs are vintage Japanese and Turkish rugs sourced from Slow Roads. "We chose the green fabric for the daybeds because we wanted it to be retro looking,

Off of the kitchen, the cozy dining area features a pendant from Twenty One Tonnes, canvas wall art from Upton, circular wood wall art from Brian Grasela, and dining chair from Hati Home.

A pair of floating nightstands in the master bedroom are by Børge Mogensen; the sconces are by Kurt Versen and came with the house. The panel of fabric over the oak Matera bed from Design Within Reach is Incantation, by Lustig— the piece was originally used as a curtain.

Each of the sliding trays in Pozner’s tidy office desk serves a different function.

Borowski took what he archly calls the “Karl Rove approach” to the redesign: “Find the weaknesses and turn them into strengths.” A case in point: Pozner’s ubiquitous piles of paperwork. “These led us to design multiple sliding desktops,” fabricated by Paul Chung of New York Construction Associates and Supreme General Construction, with multiple sliding trays he could spread his papers out on.

The apartment now has one bedroom, which enjoys a feeling of warmth from ample timber joinery.

L Architects customised a long, fluted pendant lamp using watercolour paper above the dining table, which was manufactured by Superstructure, a design-to-fabrication consultancy in Singapore.

The homeowner now wakes up to a view of potted plants through a new glass window looking into the kitchen.
