The aircraft cables that crisscross the windows provide structural support for the house—and an unexpected benefit. “They’re handy for drying laundry!” says Ohm. The custom silk drapes help control sun exposure, as does the deep roof overhang. “It’s only in the winter that the sun starts to angle in,” says Ohm.

In the upstairs bedroom, a square skylight opens to a patch of sky.

Open to the valley, the home lets the Shopes fully experience the seasons, even the sound of the Hudson River’s ice cracking in winter.

All windows are shaded by deep overhangs, minimizing solar heat gain. A pair of two north-facing guest rooms cantilever over the driveway and stay cool without sacrificing a view. An Il Guzzini pendant light adds an industrial touch to the white room.

The linens by Matteo Los Angeles in the master bedroom were among the fabrics that Mirjana Munetic of Boora selected for the Finleys. The idea was to find neutral tones that would not upstage the views.
