Though the mild climate allows for alfresco meals year-round, an outdoor fireplace adds warmth on cool evenings. Charred wood paneling can be seen along the wall.

Raj and Watts extended the fireplace column to the ceiling to highlight the room’s expansive scale, and had it coated in concrete plaster. It was important to retain the wood-burning fireplace—a rarity in the city—but “we wanted to re-clad it in a material that also spoke to the industrial past of the building,” says Raj.

On the main level, a wood-burning fireplace sits between two arched doorways in the open-plan kitchen, dining, and living areas.

Casa Dois is second of three existing guesthouses from the new hospitality brand, the Addresses. The former fish warehouse in the coastal village of Olhão, Portugal, was transformed into a two-bedroom, two-bathroom vacation rental with heritage details.

Living room with the den beyond: The fireplace partially divides the two rooms, but the open glass fireplace was meant to decrease that feeling of separation between the two rooms.

The windows and doors are by Solar Innovations, with pale wood flooring by Sawyer Mason, a Wittus fireplace, and Muuto sofas.
