Frameless bedroom windows extend beyond the floor and ceiling. "Since it's such a small house, it was really important to have this connection between the interior and exterior," says the couple.

In the kitchen, an elongated window breaks the custom walnut cabinetry by Contour Woodworks.

The master bedroom is tucked at one end of the house’s long plan, and it shares valley views with the living room.

The plywood walls and ceiling offer a subtle and organic pattern as well as warm texture for the interior. The cabin windows are double-glazed and feature matte black aluminum frames.

A staircase leads up to a mezzanine with a sleeping/living space.

The full-height glass doors open the home to its surroundings and provide a strong indoor-outdoor connection.

The eaves provide a covered place to sit and enhance the homes airy, open feel.

The large living and dining room features a dramatic central beam that slopes downward from the northeast corner of the home.

The dining area’s aluminum window frame was custom cut onsite to wrap around a corner.

“When it came to designing the inside of the home, we wanted to have your eye continue on through the glass instead of landing on a lot of details,” comments Liz.

Throughout the home, large picture windows frame views of the greenery outside, including glimpses of a 150-year-old oak tree the couple worked hard to save.

Sandy Chilewich and architect Joe Sultan, proprietors of textiles firm Chilewich|Sultan designed their own vacation home together in Columbia County, in upstate New York. On a simple wooded lot, they developed a contemporary loft-style home with furnishings from B&B Italia, Feel Good side chairs by Flexform, and a suspended, contemporary Ergofocus fireplace from Focus.

Farnham squared off the ill-fitting addition and specified large-scale, sliding glass doors from Fleetwood that match the rest of the home and let the breakfast nook open to the exterior. A white Saarinen-style table is surrounded by wooden chairs with woven seats, which were intended to warm the scheme.

The light-filled living room features one of the home's original built-in fireplaces.
